Is President West in the Cards? Kanye Announces Run for Presidency

2020 has been an insane year. Kanye West has announced that he is going to run for president and we are barely batting an eye. At this point, we have come to expect these types of proclamations from him. After all, this isn’t even the first time that he has announced a run for president. While he has said that he would run in the past, something seems different this time.

He probably views the current moment as a perfect opportunity to lunge into the political mix. Who remembers Kanye’s visit to the Oval Office? The Democrats were livid and his liberal fans were upset by his decision to don a MAGA cap. Kanye did not worry about the slings and arrows that were sent his way because of his friendship with Trump.

Social media turned against him, predictably. He was called all sorts of terrible names for supporting Trump. Kanye is not the type to allow the criticism to stop him. After all, this is the same guy who pivoted away from the hedonistic subject matter that has dominated his catalog. Anyone who is willing to move away from the usual rap tropes and record music that is designed to praise the Lord is not going to lose much sleep over online opinions.

We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States 🇺🇸! #2020VISION

He’s an outside of the box thinker but now he is going to be running against President Trump. Some are wondering if he still supports the president and others think that they are in cahoots. There’s a popular theory that has already sprang up about Trump recruiting Kanye to “run against” him, so that votes are siphoned away from Joe Biden.

Elon Musk immediately offered his support to Kanye and this is not surprising, as they are kindred spirits. It’s entirely possible that these two have spoken about the presidency already. Kanye recently posted a picture of the two hanging out together. Mrs. Kanye West, also known as Kim Kardashian, is also offering her endorsement.

You have my full support!

Kim has 65 million followers and they were not tickled pink by her endorsement. They are liberals at heart. Their big concern has to do with Kanye potentially pulling votes away from Joe Biden. He would not cost Trump any votes and that is clear off. That’s probably why the conspiracy theorists are buzzing today about a potential deal being made between West and Trump.

Biden has a big enthusiasm problem. Even the people who are willing to vote for him do not seem all that excited about it. If the same folks who are grudgingly pulling the lever on his behalf are already second guessing themselves, the presence of a new candidate is only going to muddle their decision making process even further.

Kanye West went from endorsing Trump to claiming he’d run against him —an announcement that benefits the president to the degree it spotlights Biden’s need for black voters & his potential weakness with young voters

This is the new normal and we are not even shocked anymore. In normal years, the prospect of a rap superstar running for president would be insanity. In 2020? It feels downright sane. Most of us read the announcement that Kanye made on the 4th and shrugged our shoulders. It’s more fun to imagine the decision making process and what went into it than anything else.

However, many are not bothering to offer an opinion because there’s no evidence that West is taking this ‘campaign’ seriously. He’s already well past the deadline for registration in many states. If he were a serious candidate, he would care about states like New York and Texas. It’s essentially impossible for a presidential candidate to gain any real traction without them.

In fact, no paperwork has been filed by West in any state at the current moment. We are fairly sure that he was just saying things again but we understand why there has been a fair amount of hubbub. The tweet was probably not serious. The Democrats are not losing any sleep over it and they are the party that would be affected the most. If nothing else, Kanye West’s political ambitions remain alive and well.
