It’s bad enough that Joe Biden surrendered $80 billion in military equipment, weapons, cash, and other assets to the Taliban. The disastrous pullout from Afghanistan in 2021 is arguably the worst foreign policy loss in the entire history of the US government. But things can always get worse with Joe Biden in charge! For example, Biden appears to still be sending billions of dollars to the Taliban each year.

The US government has had a Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction since 2008, the last year of the George W. Bush administration. In 2012, Barack Obama appointed a man named John Sopko to the position. Sopko has held that position ever since. It’s his job to keep an eye on the books when the federal government sends money to Afghanistan.

Sopko just testified before the House Oversight Committee that for the first time since he’s been on the job, he has no idea where US taxpayer dollars are going in Afghanistan. The Biden administration has sent Afghanistan $8 billion this year for some reason. This is incredibly weird, since we’ve completely left Afghanistan and it’s somebody else’s problem now. Not to mention the fact that Biden turned the power back over to the Taliban when he had the troops sneak away in the dead of night.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) asked Sopko if he could guarantee that none of the $8 billion sent this year had fallen into the hands of the Taliban. Sopko testified that there was no way to know because he didn’t know where any of the cash went! The Biden administration has been totally stonewalling him when it comes to opening up the books.

“[It] probably is going to the Taliban,” noted Chairman Comer. There are still approximately 175 Americans trapped in Afghanistan after all this time. And yet Joe Biden’s priority is to continue sending our tax dollars to help the Taliban.
