Tom Homan wasn’t having it. In a tense Sunday interview with Politico’s Dasha Burns, the former ICE director and current border czar unleashed a brutal truth bomb after Burns mocked the need for agents to wear protective face masks during immigration enforcement.
Burns echoed Democrats’ latest narrative—that ICE wearing masks is somehow alarming and un-American. She even cited a new bill from Senators Cory Booker and Alex Padilla that would ban ICE and other immigration agents from covering their faces. But Homan came ready for battle.
“We’ve never had the scale of attacks on ICE that we do now—up 700%,” Homan fired back. “Doxing, threats, assaults… even their families are being targeted. That’s why they wear masks.”
Burns tried to compare ICE’s situation to police officers after the “defund the police” movement, suggesting cops didn’t resort to masks. Homan wasn’t buying it.
“Name a police agency that has a 700% increase in assaults,” he shot back. “You can’t.”
Burns admitted she hadn’t “looked at that data,” and Homan steamrolled her from there. He slammed the hypocrisy of those condemning ICE for using masks while ignoring masked radicals in BLM and pro-Hamas protests who threaten Jewish students and vandalize campuses.
“Did anyone pass a law saying they can’t wear masks while committing crimes on college campuses?” Homan asked. “No. But the left wants to legislate ICE agents who are risking their lives to enforce the law.”
He made it personal, too, reminding viewers that ICE agents are fathers and mothers—people with families who now have to hide their identities just to do their jobs safely. “They’re not the beast,” Homan said. “They’re enforcing the law. They’re trying to make this country safe again.”
And the threat is real. Just this month, a Texas ICE facility was attacked on the Fourth of July. An officer was shot in the neck. In another incident, Border Patrol agents returned fire and killed a gunman who attacked a Texas facility. The Department of Justice has already made multiple arrests in connection with these violent assaults.
So when Dasha Burns tried to play the outrage card over masked ICE agents, Homan didn’t flinch. He pointed out the left’s hypocrisy, dropped the stats, and delivered a firm message: “Zero tolerance.”
This clash was more than a viral moment—it was a stark reminder of how far the media will go to vilify the people protecting our borders, and how determined leaders like Homan are to expose their lies.
