Earlier this month, Barack Obama offered Joe Biden advice on strengthening his reelection campaign. In a matter of days, things have changed.  Donald Trump’s victory in the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries may have had an impact. Recent reports are now suggesting that former President Obama and other Democrats are urging Biden to consider stepping down for the good of the party and the country.

According to a report from RadarOnline, tensions escalated between the two presidents during a secret meeting, where Obama confronted Biden about his diminishing chances against Republican candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming November election. The shocking showdown follows damaging comments from Michelle Obama, who Politico says is being pressured to challenge her husband’s former VP.

Michelle Obama expressed concern for the upcoming election and Biden’s chance of winning it. She then expressed concern about the rigors of being the President of the United States and Biden’s fitness to handle the job. “I am terrified about what could possibly happen — because our leaders matter,” she said.

Despite the warning, Biden appears oblivious to the lack of excitement surrounding his campaign and the plummeting approval ratings. Recent polls indicate that only 38 percent of Americans approve of his performance, while a substantial 58 percent hold a negative opinion. In a desperate attempt to salvage the campaign, sources reveal that Obama urged Biden to take a more aggressive stance and ensure trusted aides accompany him on the campaign trail to prevent disastrous gaffes that have marred his presidency.

Insiders claim that the Obamas believe Biden has lost public confidence, describing him as appearing more feeble and clueless each day. Another blow to Biden’s credibility came with the revelation of Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s absence during prostate cancer treatment, a situation Biden was reportedly unaware of for days. This incident raised concerns about the functioning of the Biden White House.

It is a stunning breach of protocol Austin decided to keep his commander-in-chief in the dark, putting the White House on the defensive and raising questions about Biden’s communications with the Defense Department. It has been disclosed that Lloyd did not delegate his authority to his deputy, which was a huge risk given the events taking place across the globe. Some people believe that Biden was not paying enough attention and needs to do better to maintain his position as commander-in-chief.

Apparently alarmed by these developments, Obama consulted David Axelrod, a former senior adviser and top Democratic strategist critical of Biden’s abilities. Axelrod now serves as a public voice for Obama’s concerns about Biden’s competence and declining mental capacities. However, a Washington insider dished that Barack and Michelle are working behind the scenes to take him out.

While the credibility of this report should be considered cautiously, substantial evidence points to Biden’s slim chances of victory. His approval ratings are the lowest of any modern president seeking reelection. Additionally, Biden is the oldest President in U.S. history and is currently seeking reelection.

Several national match-up polls show Donald Trump ahead of Joe Biden. According to RealClearPolitics, Trump leads Biden by +3.8 points – his biggest lead to date.   Trump also maintains a significant lead in battleground state polling, with projections favoring him to secure at least 272 Electoral College votes. CNN projects Donald Trump to also win 272 Electoral College votes with three toss-up states left: Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Joe Biden’s chances of reelection look grim.

Despite these warning signs, whether Biden will heed the advice to withdraw remains uncertain. The ideal window for him to step back from the race may have passed, raising doubts about his ability to secure a successful campaign.
